save scumming

verb; compounding
In video games, manually saving your game as many times as possible so you can load one of your saved files upon death or near-death and escape any time consuming consequences of the death-state. Considered by some to be akin to cheating, especially if normally upon death the game would send you back to the beginning.
 
I shaved hours off of my completion time by save scumming.
Etymology : compounding of "save" (as in a video game save file) and "scum"
