fancypants

noun; compounding
A person who has dressed up or done something to make themselves more attractive. Often used in jest or to make fun of someone. This word was formed by compounding “fancy” and “pants.” Adding an adjective to pants is a common method of forming neologisms among many people, my friends included. Often when a word is formed with the word pants in it, it can be inferred that the words is meant to be silly. Therefore, at least among my circle of friends, a rule can be learned about finding out the meaning of words by merely knowing that a word with pants in it indicates that it will be a funny word. In this way, the method of forming neologisms among my friends has actually developed rules of its own.

You’re all dressed up tonight, fancypants.
