Brotein

noun; blending
Term which mocks the ‘gym-bro’ culture and their obsession with protein as a way to achieve physical ‘gains’.

The ‘gym-bro’ culture is perpetuated by people who go to gyms frequently and usually make it very clear either through social media or just in conversation that they work out, or ‘lift’, in an attempt to seem tough. This culture is very focused on the idea of consuming large amounts of protein in their diets as a way to ensure that their muscles grow the largest to look as ‘swole’ as possible. The use of brotein is limited but the idea is that regular protein isn’t enough for some gym bros, they need a special type of protein that only they can handle and only they know about to make themselves feel superior.
Etymology : The term replaces the first syllable in protein with the slang term ‘bro’, indicating an over compensating aggressive male stereotype.
