Lit10

‘fun, exciting’ or even ‘wild, extravagant, crazy’

It is used primarily as teen slang to refer to a party or ironically to refer to something perceived as boring or annoying such as homework.
Etymology : This meaning is connected to a more traditional meaning of “lit” as ‘brightened by some light source.’ The new meaning of lit is formed by metaphorical extension: the source domain of light can connote positive attributes and perhaps a party that has a lot of bright lights and excitement, and this meaning can be mapped onto the target domain of atmosphere. This new meaning of “lit” can also be perceived as a metaphorical extension of “lit” as in ‘on fire.’ In this case, the meaning comes from the idea of a fire being fun, exciting, etc. So this new meaning of “lit” is most likely polysemous with the two previous meanings (“lit” as in showered with light or as in having started a fire).
