This kind of word is perhaps more likely to be used online - in a tweet or blog post - than in everyday conversation, simply because it is not widely used yet and only applies in a specific situation. “Hangry” is also in a way a justification of a bad mood, chalking it up to one’s hunger.
Etymology : “Hangry” is a blend of the concepts of “hungry” and “angry.” This blend works especially well because the two words already have a similar ending.
