Humble brag10

compounding noun
a way of bragging that is masked by (often fake) humility

The compound “humble brag” derives its humor from the oxymoronic idea of bragging that is simultaneously humble. People usually refer to something as “humble brag” if it is obviously bragging, but is being masked by politeness, false humility, humor, etc. #Humblebrag is a common hashtag as people humorously label their own tweets as humble brag, while posting them anyway. The situation ends up being a kind of layering of irony and humor that is interesting.
Etymology : "Humble brag" is a compound often used as one concept. The word formation is also distinct in that “brag” effectively becomes a noun through zero derivation, so that humble brag can be either a verb or a noun.
