higgit

noun; sound symbolism
a word for a nonsense word. This is a word created to describe nonsense words. I’m assuming it comes from sound symbolism, since it sounds like it derives its construction from nothing in particular. It simply sounds like nonsense. This word is useful in the study of neologisms, because many “nonsense” type words are found that originate as nonsense but come to have various complex meanings. Higgit itself has undergone this process, originating as a nonsense word, then coming to actually mean a nonsense word.
