“Calexit” is a blend and a noun. Following the victory of Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential Elections, many Californians expressed their wish for California to cecede from the Union, since California voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton. The hashtag #Calexit became popular on social media and served as a shorthand to express those views.
Etymology : Following along a similar note to popular 2016 words such as “Grexit” and “Brexit”, “Calexit” is a blend of the name “California” and the word “exit”.
