Negging

The use of backhanded or negative compliments in order to make them feel less confident in order to gain their approval or make them more open to advances from the person doing the negging
 
“Negging is for sad boys who are sad. Are you a sad boy?”
Etymology : Negative clipped to neg. Neg + ing (verb forming affix. Act itself called Negging Negging may have started as a clip from the word negative into neg. Neg could have then been used to stand for a negative insult and the -ing would have been added to make it a verb. The verb could have then been made into a noun as people were witnessing the process of picking up women through the use of negative insults and named this pickup strategy as negging.
