Woke

adjective
Aware of the true nature of society, especially as it relates to injustices involving racial or sexual minorities, or the inherent unfairness of the capitalist mode of production. “Paul is so woke, he can’t even watch Lilo & Stich without thinking about the economic oppression committed on native Hawaiians by white American capitalists.”

The term has undergone a metaphorical shift, associating being awake with being aware of what is happening around you. A “woke” person has awoken from the metaphorical sleep of ignorance that has kept them ignorant of the injustices going on in their society.
Etymology : Derived from the past tense form of the verb “wake”. “Wake” derives from a Middle English merger of Old English wacan "to become awake, arise, be born, originate," and Old English wacian "to be or remain awake"(etymonline).
