Day after Thanksgiving (U.S.) – associated with shopping. The derivation was based on the fact that many stores do not “go into the black,” a metaphor for breaking even or making a profit, until the Friday after Thanksgiving due to the large amount of shopping that occurs on that day and the days following it.
Etymology : Recently coined word as a compound separated by a space.
