bae (35)

  1. clipping; noun
A significant other, or something that is similarly endearing and lovable

The meaning of bae has been widened from that of “babe” or “baby” to a general term describing something endearing or well liked. It has also undergone zero derivation, being used as an adjective describing something that could be a bae; “That’s so bae!” and “That’s my bae!” are both valid usages of bae. One possibility for the coining of this neologism is a general trend of shorter words within slang; baby or babe have two syllables each, while bae only has one. Bae also has a folk etymology, a backronym: “Before anyone else” (Washington Post, The Lamentable Death of Bae)
Etymology : Formed from clipping of English babe.
Source : “Seeing how well and how fast your Bae adjusts (read: minimal complaining and going with the flow), is a true test of how quickly they will adapt to and handle changes uncomfortable challenges in your relationship.” (Huffington Post, 12 Reasons Why Traveling With Bae Will Make Or Break Your Relationship, September 15, 2016)
  2. clipping adjective
