humblebrag

noun; compounding
A statement that is ostensibly modest or humble, yet serves as a roundabout way of boasting.

Humblebrag was most likely coined as a way to mock those who brag in a roundabout way. Humblebrag is an oxymoron, serving to highlight its contradictory nature. In this sense, “humble” is used ironically; the intentions of a humblebrag are to brag under a veneer of self-deprecation.
Etymology : Compound formed by humble and brag.
Source : “The most common humblebrag may be the job interview game where the questioner asks prospects what their biggest weaknesses are, while the interviewees go one about the problems of being a perfectionist or of being accommodating and easy to get along with.” (Fortune, Harvard study: Humblebragging doesn’t work, April 30, 2015)
