epée

noun;
A common modern fencing weapon based on the “dueling sword” that weighs approximately 27 ounces and has a rather thick, stiff blade, especially when compared with another common weapon, the foil.

The epée…is the descendent of the dueling sword…
Etymology : It is a borrowing from French. Epée means sword in French, but when it was borrowed into English and is used as a fencing term, it has a specialized definition referring to a particular type of sword.
