pregame(2)

verb; derivation prefixation
To consume alcohol prior to a social event

Usually used before some sort of party or similar event, people will “pregame” by drinking together prior to attending the function so they will already be drunk when they arrive. Presumably the origin of this word can be connected to tailgating events, at which one would get drunk before (pre) an actual game. Likewise, to pregame means to get drunk before a social event.
Etymology : the “pre-“ prefix is added to “game” to indicate that the action is occurring before a game. This is generalized to mean any kind of social event. It is the verb form of the adjective “pregame” meaning in preparation for a sporting event.
