Fandom

noun; compounding
A community of enthusiasts of a book, television program, film etc. Groups of fanatics of a particular branch of entertainment form exclusive communities online thanks to message boards, websites and journal communities. Members of these groups (fandoms) are often writers, poets, artists who communicate primarily through the typed word. In defining themselves and what they do, they create a highly esoteric vocabulary, made up of many terms of jargon. Fandom is one of these words. Other words in this journal, such as “OMGWTFBBQ” and “squee” are very likely to have originated in fandom.

There aren’t many males in this fandom.
Etymology : fandom. From compounding/clipping fan(atic) + dom(ain).
