Gas (1)

verb Metaphor
To boost someone’s ego, to lift someone up, pump up

Despite generally having a connotation that is more negative or icky (from it’s association with flatulence and gasoline) it seems to have undergone some type of amelioration. Although it’s not exactly amelioration because gas used in this way can also have somewhat of a negative connotation, considering booting someone’s ego is not always a good thing. There is a shift in the meaning of gas as a fuel to meaning ‘to fuel someone else.,’ (using the definition of fuel to mean to ‘provide/produce power.’) “I’m just trying to look at my phone bill and Jessica thinks I'm gassing her up.”
Etymology : from 'gas'
