listen

interjection; slang
Used as a response to statements seen as untrue in informal contexts.

Unlike the conventional use of listen, this new usage does not indicate that the speaker wants the other interlocutor’s attention, or even that the speaker has anything further to say. Rather, it expresses the speaker’s emotions or feelings.
Etymology : Possibly a clipping of the existing phrase “listen here/ up”
Source : "Well badminton’s better than running.” “Listen.” (friend 9/15/17)
