prospie1

noun; clipping
Prospective student at a university.

This term is used at Rice and at least a few other universities across the country. It can have a neutral or negative connotation. The negative connotation could stem from a prospie’s inexperience with college life. Usually used in an informal context, but this is probably the most common word to refer to prospective students among current students at Rice in any context.
Etymology : Clipping of prospective student.
