Sociohorticulture

noun compounding
The study of how the act of gardening affects humans physically and mentally.

At Texas A&M, Novak coined the term “sociohorticulture,” which encompasses the psychosocial effects plants and gardening have on humans.
Etymology : Compound of “socio-“ (Latin socius, society) and horticulture (Latin hortus, garden, and cultura, agriculture, together meaning the science of growing plants). Like many academic fields of study, it is composed of Latin roots strung together. “Socio-“ is added on to the already established word “horticulture” to indicate that both people and plants are being studied.
