Culture Jamming: Activism and the Art of Cultural Resistance
Etymology : “Culture” refers to the collection of traits that characterize a society and in this case American consumer culture. “Jamming” is a metaphor referring to jamming a machine, meaning inserting something inside machinery so the machine cannot move and thus cannot produce an output. People who participate in culture jamming are seeking to jam the metaphorical machine of consumer culture and prevent the machine’s “output” of causing people to have consumeristic tendencies.
