Flex/Flexing

noun; verb; analogy
To show off one’s video game skills.

This term is analogous to a bodybuilder flexing their muscles after an intense workout. Only in the video game context, a person is ‘flexing’ their good performance or exceptional skills. The new usage of the word arises from a metaphorical extension of the more generic meaning of flex. This term, as defined, is found in the gammer subcommunity.
Etymology : Term formed by analogy to flex(to move or tense a muscle by contraction), which comes from Latin ‘flextura,’ meaning ‘to bend.’”
Source : My roommate told me that he had just seen a bunch of people ‘flexing’ on their Instagram accounts about their Fortnite (a very popular video game) victories. He was referring to the fact that Fortnite players had posted pictures to show off their recent victories. (Conversation.
