Sundeck-Fundeck

noun; compounding
A particular event at Martel College of Rice University which takes place on the sundeck and has drinks and music provided so people can communicate and get acquainted there.

This word is strongly associated with the students community (the event is student-organized, student-run and for students). The term usage is limited to a) event itself (e.g. “the committee organized Sundeck-Fundeck last Friday”), b) the time of the event (e.g. “during Sundeck-Fundeck he was sleeping”). The word, besides informal speech, was used in the documents of the Student Parliament (9/18/2019 and 10/2/2019).
Etymology : It consists of 2 parts; each of them, in turn, is also a compound. “Sundeck” was already existing world to indicate a deck (part of the building) open to sun. “Fundeck” was invented a) to create rhyme, b) to indicate the fact that participants are having fun during this event.
Source : “Sundeck-Fundeck is where you can hang out and get free beer” (conversation with my O-Week teammate, 9/20/2019).
