After initially appearing on Twitter, this word has been used in countless memes of chubby animals, anime characters, and the Spongebob Squarepants character Bubble Bass. “Thick” meaning dense, viscous, solid, stiff; numerous, abundant, deep comes from the Old English þicce, which is from the Proto-Germanic thiku- and the Proto-Indo European tegu-.
