segway

noun;
Transition, esp. from one topic to another in speech; an introduction to a subject ('a segway into the future', 'a segway into the next chapter') This is a semantic change (metaphor) from a newly created word originally used as a product name. Riding on a Segway is supposed to be pleasant and smooth, so the metaphoric use of the commercial product somewhat expresses the notion of a smooth transition or journey. Usually heard from public speech, it also echoes how the speaker wants to convey the idea of guiding and reaching to a vision or concept that is new to the audience, as if a guide were leading a group of tourists on Segways touring around the city. I have also heard it in the zero-derived verb form.

This will be a segway into our next topic.
Etymology : from the product name [Segway], 'the commercial 2-wheel scooter'
