Adopt

verb; other word formation type Semantic Change
In chess, adopt refers to the action of beating someone ten times in a row using the same time control.

“That’s it! You are not adopting me! Not today!”
Etymology : This term is derived from the original meaning of the word adoption (taking one’s child and raising it as one’s own from the mid-14th century French “adopcion”). The term is known as adopt because the action of beating someone ten times in a row shows complete superiority over the opponent, and, as such, they are like a child to you in terms of chess strength. The term was coined by the Canadian Grandmaster Eric Hansen.
