Vibe Check

compounding; noun
The act of violently attacking someone, usually by hitting them over the head with a blunt object.

This word was coined as a metaphor of the existing word “Vibe Check” which roughly means the act of determining if two people/things are getting along either literally or metaphorically. This coinage probably relates to the original definition by going against it as a means of producing contrast; thereby producing humorous effect. Vibe Check is commonly used online as a part of memes and text-posts. A vibe check is an action, but the word can also be used as an exclamation before performing a vibe check.
Etymology : Vibe is an abbreviation of the word vibration specifically in it’s slang meaning ‘intuitive signal about a person or thing’. The word vibration is descended from the latin word vibrationem which means ‘a shaking, a brandishing’. Check is descended the word check as a term in Chess through repeated semantic change.
