A pepper (the vegetable)
 
This is an abbreviation for pepper. It is an informal word best used in conversations with friends. It was probably coined either to make the word shorter and thus easier to say, or to achieve a more unique and interesting sound. It can be used on its own, or as a part of compound words that include ‘pepper’. For example bell pepper can be replaced with bell pep.
Etymology : Pep is a clipping of the word pepper. Pepper is from the Old English word pipor, which is a West Germanic borrowing of the latin word ‘piper’ meaning ‘pepper’. ‘piper’ is from the greek word ‘piperi’.
