slackadem

noun; blending and clipping
one who majors in a social science or humanities field, rather than a natural science or engineering field Slackadem is a play on the word academ. At Rice, students tend to shorten words having to do with academics. For a example, an electrical engineer is an “elec”, and organic chemistry is simply “orgo." Slackadem is a spiteful variation of ‘academ’ used by science and engineering majors, who feel like they are required to work much harder than academs.

Interesting, there are no slackadems in our suite.
Etymology : combination of ‘slack’ with ‘(ac)adem(ic)’
