- Permaban is most frequently used in online game servers such as Minecraft, where a culprit of extreme cheating or other severe infractions on the rules of the server are not banned for a certain amount of time like most people but are permanently banned. The use of an object in a game can also be permabanned if it is deemed unfair. This term can extend outside of video games to general situations as well and is used in the same sense.
Permaban
verb; blending
To permanently ban a person or thing.
Etymology : This term comes from a compound of the words “permanent,” meaning forever, and “ban,” meaning prohibit. Thus, the compound “permaban” acts in the same way as “permanent ban” or “permanently banned.” The word “permanent” is clipped to “perma-” and “ban” remains the same in the compounding. This likely arose from the desire to type quickly in online games, as “permaban” is faster to type than “permanent ban.”
