Zooted

adjective; derivation
Extremely dysfunctional due to the use of alcohol or drugs, high and/or drunk to the point of being barely able to think.

When encountering a person that is extremely intoxicated in some form to the point, they can barely function, that person can be called “zooted.” If one is getting intoxicated to reach that state, they can be “trying to get zooted.” People that are at lower levels of intoxication are not considered “zooted” as they are still functional to a degree.
Etymology : The word “zoot” comes from the zoot suit, a type of very long suit that was in style with African American and Hispanic communities in the 1940s but spread to be clothing associated with gangsters and pimps. As these gangsters and pimps were most likely to have drugs, the term could be associated with drugs and excess intake of them. From this, the suffix “-ed” was added to zoot to derive the word zooted to mean excessively intoxicated.
