yessir

interjection compounding; other word formation type
another word for yes

Yessir originates from the Southeastern part of the United States, and most specifically Atlanta. It is used in the urban community. This term is usually used as a word of affirmation. Whenever yessir is used, it is to commend someone on their actions or looks. It is said with excitement and is not a derogatory term. It has become more popular in the last year. This may be due to the increased use of the word in various rap songs that were released in the past year. It is important to note that the term is more often used to address males.
Etymology : This term is a combination of two words: yes and sir. This is a fairly easy compounding to understand as the definitions of the two words contribute to the term. Yes is defined as a word used to confirm something, while sir is a way of addressing an older and unfamiliar adult male.
