Shipper

noun; clipping
Someone who strongly supports a romantic relationship between two people (usually fictional characters or celebrities).

Shipper comes from “relationshipper” which had the same meaning, and is an agentive nominalisation of the verb “relationshipping” (an action verb meaning “to support a romantic relationship between two people”).
Etymology : The term “relationshipper” (which was quickly shortened to “shipper”) was originally used by the online fan community for the X-Files television show in 1996 to describe people who wanted the main characters of the X-Files, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, to enter a romantic relationship with each other. The term was then broadened to cover all people who supported certain romantic pairings of fictional characters or celebrities.
