Quad(2)

noun; clipping Clipping of "Quadrangle"
A large grassy field in the shape of a quadrangle at a school or University.

Quadrangle originally meant a shape with four sides and four angle, and “quad” shows metonymy by being used to represent a field that is in the shape of a quadrangle.
Etymology : Quadrangle is partially borrowed from the French “quadrangle” and partially borrowed from the Latin “quadrangulum” meaning “having four angles.” Quadrangle is formed from the Latin root “quad” meaning “four” and the Latin root “angulum” meaning “angle.”
