Tier 3s

noun; clipping; derivation (Affixation)
Vertically mounted weapons in Forts RTS

The word is used in the Forts RTS community to refer to weapons that are mounted vertically or semi-vertically. In the game, weapons can normally only be mounted horizontally but through some clever use of the in-game physics you can tilt the weapons to be mounted vertically. Although the game has three actual tiers of weapons, vertically mounted weapons (regardless of their actual tier) are considered to be unofficially part of the “tier 3 weapons” because they are able to fire in a high parabolic arc to hit the roof of the opponent’s fort which is usually less protected than the front which makes the weapons more powerful than normal weapons. The word is formed by taking a clipping of the phrase “Tier 3 Weapon” and adding the plural suffix -s.
Etymology : From clipping of “Tier 3 Weapon” plus -s, plural affix.
