webpedia

noun; blending and clipping
online databases that collectively act as an encyclopedia; the whole collection of electronic encyclopedias available through the websites of the World Wide Web Due to the increasing use of technology to compact larger processes into small ones, the term webpedia evolved. Before the widespread development of the World Wide Web, most people used hard copies of encyclopedias to find information on various topics. These hard copes were collected in individual books called volumes and usually arranged alphabetically to organize a vast amount of information. Some volume sets would exceed 25 individual books which would take up a great deal of room to store. However, the development of websites sponsored by these encyclopedia companies allowed for all of this information to be gathered on the Internet. Online encyclopedias are available, with some being free, and do not require storage space other than the computer used to access them. Therefore the term webpedia, indicates an encyclopedia available by websites on the Internet. People had to use this distinction to distinguish which alteration of the source was used.

Don’t forget about the importance of a real encyclopedia, not just your webpedia
Etymology : : Blending and clipping of website and encyclopedia. Web (clip of website, meaning) + and pedia (clip of encyclopedia, meaning ). The term website has undergone a semantic shift as the spectrum of technology has increased. Originally the term meant “a computer system that runs a web server” but has evolved to mean “a document or a set of linked documents, usually associated with a particular person, organization, or topic, that is held on such a computer system and can be accessed as part of the World Wide Web.” Ther term encyclopedia derived from Greek enkuklios paideia meaning “general education.”
