This word was found as a relationship tag on a fanfiction, and is generally used by those familiar with the LGBTQIA+ community. This word was created to discuss a specific type of relationship that was not exactly described by platonic, romantic, or sexual relationships.
Etymology : A compound of “queerplatonic” and “relationship”. “Queerplatonic” in reference to anything other than a relationship is rarely used, if ever. “Queerplatonic” is a compound of “queer” and “platonic”. “Queer” is a word that is undergoing amelioration as it is being reclaimed by the LGBTQIA+ or GSRM community; it was in the past, and is likely still, used as a derogatory label for a member of the community. This may be linked to another meaning of the word “queer”, which is that it means strange or bizarre. Due to the pejorative use, not everyone in the community is comfortable with the word “queer” as a descriptor, and so must be used with discretion. However, other members of the community now use it as a label, an “umbrella term”. Sexuality and gender are fluid, so the word “queer” has changed in meaning to communicate that a person is not straight, heterosexual, or cisgender, without necessarily boxing themself into a specific orientation or gender.
