- Fohawk derives from Mohawk, an extreme hairstyle characterized by shaved sides and a long midline of hair. The “Fo-“ in Fohawk comes from the French word “faux”, which means “fake”. A Fohawk hairstyle, therefore, is a “fake Mohawk”: it shares some similarity with the Mohawk while having a much milder look. The sides are often not cut as short as Mohawk and the top part does not come with extreme stylings.
