girlboss

noun; compounding pejoration
This term refers sarcastically to a woman in a high position who exploits or misuses her power. The term originally referred to a powerful and independent woman, and seems to have been used with the intention of empowering women. However, the term underwent pejoration and gained this second meaning. When the original term was used in earnest to refer to certain women in power, individuals who believed those women were misusing their power to the detriment of marginalized people used the term sarcastically, leading to this pejoration. Both uses still seem to exist.

“She exploits her workers and doesn’t do anything productive with her massive wealth… but what a girlboss, amirite?”
Etymology : Pejoration of the compound of ‘girl’ and ‘boss,’ meaning an empowered woman, especially in a position of power.
