- @ing occurs on twitter when a person puts @ then someone’s username. @ing is typically used when a person is being called out for something, good or bad. The word can also be applied to other social media that does not use the @ sign but allows people to add people. It has also started to be used in speech offline when someone makes a statement targeted toward an individual person or group.
