- Can generally be used interchangeably with “relaxing.” Is a derivation of “vibe,” which is in turn a clipping of “vibration.” “Vibe” is typically used to describe the metaphysical aura that someone gives off, a common usage being “good vibes only.” Vibe can be used positively or negatively, and on it’s own it doesn’t imply much. For example, the meaning of the phrase “he gives off a vibe” depends entirely on the context and tone of voice used. “Vibes” essentially come from a person’s own intuition. Despite all that, “vibing” has a generally positive connotation, implying a sense of calm.
