It represents a character that shows a tough and arrogant attitude in order to conceal shyness and arrogance but with more depiction, a reader/audience can see the character switches from being tough and cold towards warm or friendly.
Etymology : This neologism features the loaning phenomenon when groups of people from different languages and cultures interact more and more with each other. In this example, it is the english speaking fan of Japanese animation interact with its native fans. Tsundere is a direct borrowing of its Japanese term.
