To weaken or make less effective This word is commonly used in the online gaming community to refer to something that has been weakened or made less effective. It is used as an analogy to the difference between a Nerf gun (a harmless toy) and a real gun. For example, a weapon that is decided by the developers of a game to be overly powerful might be nerfed to keep the game fair and balanced.
 
The warrior class just got nerfed.
