A person who enjoys eating food from a variety of countries A foodie is a person who not only enjoys eating, but also spends a great deal of time learning about the food. Foodies take great pleasure in eating food from different cultures and countries. A foodie is not necessarily arrogant, but he or she does enjoy the experience of eating variety of food from different countries. The speaker was searching for an informal term to match the informal setting. A term like a connoisseur would seem to formal. Furthermore, the boy was trying to capture the silliness of his relatives behavior. According to him, his father and uncle make lists of all the restaurants they want to go to when they go to a certain country and drive around looking for all of them. A term like foodie captures the silliness of the situation.
 
During a dinner at an Associate’s house, a Lovett freshman described his father and uncle, who enjoy visiting restaurants in every country they travel to, as foodies.
