suburbia

noun; blending
A synonym for the suburbs, but with negative connotations. Suburbia is a word sometimes used by disgruntled teenagers to refer to the suburbs. However, suburbia carries negative associations that the usual word suburb usually does not carry. In particular, the ending –ia calls to mind the words utopia and dystopia. Although suburbs are designed to be pleasant and attractive, somewhat like a utopia, many teenagers think of the suburbs as boring and therefore closer to a dystopia.

"I’m the son of rage and love, the Jesus of suburbia..."
Etymology : Possible blend of suburb and utopia or dystopia. [suburb [< OF. sub(b)urbe, < L. suburbium, sub- + urbs 'city'] + -ia]
