In a manner resembling that of Bill Belichick, head coach of the New England Patriots. Peter King wanted to characterize Bill Belichick as having a certain set of definable traits. One of these characteristics is the fact that Belichick is practically the sole media spokesman for his team because he does not want his players and staff getting caught up in media hype. He wants to portray a unified image of his team by not letting those below him speak, lest they say contradictory things. Since Belichick has a unique personality and is arguably the NFL’s most successful current head coach, the term Belichickian often gets bandied around in sports jargon.
