harajukufy

verb; blending and clipping
To make similar to Harajuku. Harajuku is the center for teenage fashion in Tokyo and follows the pulse of the nation’s youth. Every Sunday, teenagers will dress up as anime characters, Goths, or anything else that they can come up with to show off to the world. The atmosphere of Harajuku contrasts the more traditional Japanese temples and shrines in neighboring districts. The word “Harajukufy” was first used to describe the new anime “パラダイスキス”, or “Paradise Kiss”, which is a high school girl who encounters a group of eccentric fashion designers in Harajuku. The opening animation not only features actual shots of the architecture of Harajuku, a few of its clothing shops, and what Harajuku looks like at night, but the animation portion of the opening also includes a girl calling her friend on her cell phone, a guy shopping for jeans, two girls enjoying lunch together at a café, a girl riding the train to and from school, a guy performing at a rock concert, and a couple in a somewhat troubled relationship. All of these activities encompass an average teenager’s life. As a result, the show effectively captures the livelihood the character in the anime as well as the target audience. Nonetheless, this word appears to be a nonce creation. It was created for the sole purpose of describing Paradise Kiss and will probably never be used again.

The show’s opening animation is Harajukufied from start to finish, and not only because the street scenes correspond to real life locations. Rather, it just feels like Harajuku. Glamour without pretension. Electric. Youthful.
