Apparent meaning: tiny low-powered, wireless sensors. Reason used: motes are tiny low-powered wireless sensors that can be deployed in open field. They are used to collect data such as rainfall, humidity and they can talk to each other and report data back to a manage node or computer. They are the hot topic in the sensor network field today. These sensors originated from a project in UC Berkeley. Motes are now product of company that extended out the UC Berkeley project.
