To factor an usually complex equation The word has connotations that the doer of the verb assumes a certain familiarity with the practice of factoring, to the point of inventing a slang term for it. Origin: Slang term for the verb factor. Source: Physics professor at Rice University first used this term in lecture as a substitute for the word factor in a part of the lecture that directly related to this professor’s research concentration. It should be noted here that this professor uses “factor” more often when referring to areas of physics that are less familiar to him.
 
Now we’ll just factorize these angular momentum operators to obtain this simple result.
