Flossin'

verb; clipping
Definition: to show off, to cruise around in one’s car in order to impress people of the opposite sex (usually men trying to impress women). Flossin’ Origin: I first heard this term in June of 2005 in a song by Lil’ Flip, originated in the African-American vernacular. I have a few theories for how flossing (cleaning one’s teeth with a string) shifted to flossin’ (showing off and driving around one’s neighborhood to impress people). First there is a connection with the action of flossing and the pattern of driving around a neighborhood slowly swerving between lanes. Another connection is with an idea of “clean” which has also become extended to the words cool and sharp, so cleaning your teeth may be equivalent to looking clean or cool while your in your car cruising. And like one might show off their smile or teeth one could show off their car.

Usage: “And we like to floss...all my diamonds gloss...”
